Obituary Condolences

Ira T. Lieberman, born April 19, 1924 in Floresville, Texas, passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, June 27, 2008. Ira spent his early childhood in Floresville and moved to San Antonio where he attended Mark Twain Junior High School and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in World War II, flying artillery reconnaissance in the Philippines. Ira earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. He later married Janet Carol Scharff of Kansas City, MO on April 25, 1953 and they spent their married years in San Antonio. Ira was the owner and President of Lieberman's Department Stores, headquartered in Floresville, from 1948-1985, and expanded the company from one to ten stores during this time. He was also the President and owner of Burn's Paint Company in San Antonio from 1986-1991. Ira was a dedicated volunteer serving many hours with the Golden Manor Home for the Aged where he was a board member, treasurer, and secretary, the YMCA of San Antonio, the Business Careers High School, the Building Alternatives Charter High School, an active member of Temple Beth El, and the United Way of San Antonio. He was a member of the San Antonio Rotary Club, an avid golfer and tennis player. Ira is survived by his daughters, Anne L. Wilson and husband Scott of Pacifica, CA and Ellen K. Lieberman of Harwood, TX; son, Dr. Steven A. Lieberman of Houston; granddaughters, Jessica Lyn Lieberman and Sarina Rae Lieberman of Houston; sister, Sara M. Golding of San Antonio; and brothers, Dr. David M. Lieberman of St. Louis, MO and Dr. Zelig ('Zeck') H. Lieberman of Dallas. SERVICE TUESDAY JULY 1, 2008 10:00 A.M.
