Marie Tiblier Vazquez Obituary
FEBRUARY 2, 1926 - OCTOBER 21, 2017
Born on February 2, 1926, to Helen McDermott and Lawrence Tiblier, Marie was one of five sisters. For three generations, the family owned and operated the Martinet Hotel in San Diego, Texas. Stories of their life at the hotel, and the long-time guests who stayed there, were like reading a chapter out of Fried Green Tomatoes.

During the depression, the family sold the hotel and later moved to San Antonio seeking better opportunities. It was there that Marie met her future husband, OJ Vazquez, a logistical engineer. His work took them to Santa Barbara County, California, where they raised their three children.

Marie dedicated her life to being a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Her creativity with flowers brought much joy to her life, and her talent afforded an opportunity to work for a local florist in California. Marie was a master at making friends and cherished her friendships with neighbors, co-workers, and family members around the country.

Marie is predeceased by her beloved husband, Oscar J. Vazquez; along with daughter, Joanne Imler; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Abdoney and sisters, Loraine Tiblier, Julie Weber and Margaret Kinnally. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Larry) Pugliese, of Tampa, Florida; her son, Larry (Natalia) Vazquez of Goleta, California; and son-in-law, Bob Imler of Boerne, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include Andrea (Matt) Abdoney; Alexandria Vazquez, Nicholas Vazquez, Jolie Imler; and two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Nolan Abdoney. One sister, Kathleen Hrncir and cousins Jane Carter and Leone Richardson survive Marie, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

For the past six years, Marie resided in Tampa, Florida, but she remained a proud Texan, wishing to have her final resting place in the great state that she loved. She died peacefully on October 21, 2017. A memorial service will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North, in San Antonio, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00am with a reception to follow. Deacon John Eichelberger will officiate. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
