Pedro Flores Obituary
Pedro "Pete" M. Flores, born January 19, 1920 in Elmendorf, Texas, entered eternal rest February 14, 2014 at the age of 94. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Angel and Nieves Flores; his brothers Jesse M. and Joe A. Flores; his sister Adela Perales; and his wife, Maria M. Flores, "the love of his life". He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Siller of California. He is survived by his sister, Juanita "Janie" Jimenez; his stepbrother, Jesse Estrada; his sister-in-law, Rosa P. Flores; his stepchildren Mary Ortiz, Corina Miranda, Irene Ramos, Irma Valerio, Victoria Rodriguez, and Juan Luna; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. A special "thanks" to his nephew Samuel "Sam" Perales for the time, dedication and devotion he gave "Tio Pete" during the last couple of years of his life. Pete, as a member of America's "Greatest Generation", served his country as an Army tank commander in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during World War II. He received a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945. As a civilian, Pete worked at Kelly A.F.B as a base housing manager for 38 years before retiring in 1977. But, "retirement" wasn't Pete's style and it was in the Fall of 1977 that he began another phase of his life. Pete and Mary bought and started a small business in San Antonio's "Westside" and named it "The P & M Lounge". Pete and Mary owned the "P & M" for nearly 27 years and in that time, developed it into what an Express-News local feature story called the "Westside Cheers" in May, 1999. Pete & Mary hosted many of San Antonio's local musicians, bands and may have started "live music & dancing on Sunday" when it couldn't be found anywhere else in the city. Pete's "94 years of life" will be celebrated Thursday, February 20 at Hillcrest Funeral Home and Burial Park. Visitation will begin at 2pm. Pete was a 40-year member of Masonic Lodge 1270 and will be honored by Lodge members at 5pm. Local musicians will remember Pete from 5-6m with some of his favorite "oldies". A rosary will begin for Pete at 7pm and visitation will close at 9pm. A private family interment ceremony is scheduled for a later date.
