Penelope "Penni" (Newsom) Scheh

1947 - 2019 Obituary Condolences
Penelope "Penni" (Newsom) Scheh Obituary
July 19, 1947 - December 21, 2018
Penni (Newsom) Scheh, 71, died peacefully on December 21, 2018 with her husband by her side after a miraculous battle surviving cancer 40 years ago, ultimately succumbing to the lifelong effects from the radiation treatments. Penni was born in San Antonio, TX where she lived her entire life. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1965, and married the love of her life and fellow classmate, Curtis Scheh on February 7, 1976. Penni had a very fulfilling professional career with General Motors, rising to the position of Credit/Loan Supervisor at GMAC. She retired in July 2003 after 35 years of service to GM. In her most recent years, Penni's passion and love were her two Golden Retrievers (Star & Spirit) who were always by her side as she dealt with years of poor health. Despite her health challenges, her vigor for life and commitment to her religious faith never wavered, as she maintained an active membership in Triumphant Lutheran Church. Penni was often described as absolutely 'full of life' - outgoing, kind, generous, giving, stylish, quick-witted and downright fun! Never taking good health for granted, she loved to host family gatherings at her beautiful home in Garden Ridge, TX. She made friends quickly and was an extraordinary listener. Through all of her years of health issues, she never gave up 'hope on life.' She was one tough fighter and always found the resilience to make the most of her situation. Penni & Curtis enjoyed spending time in Port Aransas, TX at their cozy beach house, fondly referred to as 'Scheh's Summer Place.' She loved both inshore and offshore fishing with Curtis, and could spend all day out on the boat by his side...not a hair out of place! When not fishing, Penni loved to walk San Jose Island Beach in search of seashells and romp in the surf with her dogs. Her grandchildren were her true joys. She reveled in witnessing their youth, laughter and enthusiasm for life, and they always brought much happiness during visits. Another special delight in Penni's heart was spending time with her lifelong friends from high school, the "Divas," who will undoubtedly continue her memory in all of their fun get-togethers. Penni is survived by her loving husband, best friend and caretaker of 44 years, Curtis Scheh, and stepdaughter, Donna Williamson and husband, John, of Dripping Springs, TX and their children Audrey, Ava and Scott. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Betty Scheh of San Antonio, TX as well as sisters - Vicki Gannaway and husband, Dick, of Floresville, TX and Gracie Newsom of Houston, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Penni is preceded in death by her father, Melvin Newsom; mother, Dorothy Newsom; and brother, Max Newsom and wife, Rosie. Family, friends and others whose lives Penni touched are invited to a memorial service at Triumphant Lutheran Church in Garden Ridge, TX on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 12:00pm with Pastor Aaron Richter officiating. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life in the Ballroom at The Club at Garden Ridge, 21320 Water Wood Drive in Garden Ridge, including a catered luncheon. Early arrival at church is recommended.
