Life's journey for Shirley Schaker Grossman, daughter of Fred O. & Rose (Hylasek) Schaker, Sr. came to an end on March 24, 2021 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 92. After visitation by family and friends, Shirley passed peacefully under the caring and watchful eyes of the staff at Vitas – Villa Rosa.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Terry Schaker DeFrain (& Jimmy); Mary Lou Schaker Enfield (& Dwight); Fred (George) Schaker, III; and Tony Schaker (& Karen); numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and her New York Family. She had a gift of friendship that included many wonderful life-long friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Henry (Hank) J. Grossman; brother & sister-in-law: Fred & Gloria (Schramm) Schaker, Jr.; nephew: Chris Schaker; and grand nephew: Nick Schaker.

Life for Shirley started in Staten Island, NY. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Port Richmond High School, she attended two years at Notre Dame College for Girls in Staten Island. Then life took the Schaker family to San Antonio, Texas where Shirley received her Business Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1949. Joske's of San Antonio hired this young college graduate as a buyer in the lingerie department.

After Joske's, Shirley moved to Minneapolis, MN as a buyer for Donaldson's Department Store where she met her wonderful husband Hank. While in MN, Shirley received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of MN and began teaching at Shakopee High School. Life then brought Shirley and Hank back to San Antonio where she taught business at MacArthur High School. She retired in 1992 to travel and help others through her volunteer work with VIP Club, SCORE, and ACCOG.

Shirley loved swimming at the club and ballroom dancing. Her favorite traveling memory was taking cruises that included ballroom dancing. She could converse with anyone on almost any topic. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
