TINER
Kenneth Walton Tiner, Sr., a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, the second of November, at 82 years of age. Mr. Tiner was born in Lavernia, Texas on April 27th, 1926, the ninth of ten children born to John Frank and Martha Ellen McBee Tiner. He grew up on the family farm, which was situated on the Cibolo Creek, and it was there that he developed his love of both hard work and delightful play. From milking cows to gathering eggs, Kenneth learned the value of hard work from an early age. But hunting squirrels and fishing the Cibolo Creek also taught him the value of leisure and relaxation. After graduating at the top of the Lavernia High School class of 1943, he attended Pepperdine College, where he was part of an unusual Tiner Family Affair: Pepperdine's President at the time was his oldest brother Hugh, and a favorite classmate was another brother Frank, Jr. In April of 1946, Kenneth married his childhood sweetheart, Doris Muriel Brown Tiner, in Corpus Christi. They were married for sixty years until her passing in May of 2006. Kenneth W. Tiner, Sr. spent most of his adult life working in Financial Services at the H.E.B. Corporate Offices. He also served for many, many years in music and ministry at Parkside Church of God, as well as the Church of God Youth Camps at Camp Amigo on Lake Corpus Christi. Mr. Tiner is survived by three sons: Kenneth, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Larry (Pam) of Jourdanton, and Richard (Sherry) of Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; one brother Lane (Lula) of San Antonio, one sister Lola (Ivan) Wilson of Corpus Christi, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Uncle Kenneth was such a precious man who dearly loved his family. I loved hearing and reading his many stories about life on the farm. Some of my most treasured memories of Uncle Kenneth involved late night stories of fishing and baseball. He was a blessing to all of us.

Uncle Kenneth was one of a kind. His faith and love of family serve as a lasting legacy. The cassettes he sent me with his tenor voice singing his favorite hymns and regaling memories of his rich life are treasures to me and my husband and daughters. What an amazing memory he possessed! He was a precious soul!

Our deepest sympathies to the Tiner Family. Uncle Kenneth brought so much joy in our lives. It was the highlight of our summers the past few years to visit with him. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the Tiner clan was prodigious. It was so enjoyable to spend time with him and listen to his stories. His infectious smile and great attitude always uplifted us. May God bless him and his memory. Love, Tim, Terri, Jessica, and Julie Johnson
