Jane Cozad Obituary
COZAD
McAllen:
Beloved Jane Bland Cozad, born September 26, 1960 in McAllen, TX, left this earth to dwell in heaven on July 5, 2009. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1978 and the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years John Eldred Cozad, daughter Sarah Marie Cozad, son Asa Eldred Cozad, mother Julia Ann Bland, sister Julie Bland Doherty, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jane was blessed with tremendous leadership capabilities and courage, but possessed a servant's heart. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. In addition to her work with other charitable and religious causes in the Linn-San Manuel community, she served for 15 years on the planning and scholarship board for the Linn-San Manuel Country Cook-off. Jane, whose first job was a schoolteacher, was especially passionate about education. She served on the Board of Governors for TMI-The Episcopal School of Texas in San Antonio. Jane loved her church community. She grew up, married, and raised her children at St. John's Episcopal Church in McAllen. With her husband by her side, Jane faithfully served as chair for the Christian education program, senior warden for the vestry, and dedicated countless hours towards serving the church's youth program. She also served as chair of development for the Good Samaritan Program across the Rio Grande Valley. To those who knew her best, Jane is remembered as a woman who lovingly empowered people, regardless of age or background, to reach their maximum potential. Although corporally gone from this Earth, she will forever remain in the hearts of everyone whom her beautiful, selfless life touched. The funeral service will occur at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2500 N. 10th, McAllen, at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 10. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the following: 1.)
