Robert Conger Obituary

CONGER
Robert Paschal Conger, age 55, passed away at his home on Friday, February 13, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in San Antonio on December 1, 1953 to Jack Lyles and Sarah Williams Conger. He was a loving husband to Lori and a devoted father to sons Brent & Hunter and was fondly referred to as "Pack" by his two grandchildren. Bob passionately loved the Lord and his family and friends his entire life. During his 8 year battle with cancer, Bob was determined to live out his life's purpose of growing God's Kingdom by encouraging others to ask the question "Where am I going after I die?" Bob's perspective and belief in eternal life was so evident when you saw him and understood his devote belief in our Lord and Savior. As a result Bob has touched so many lives and is a true child of God as it relates to his walk of faith. Bob was a true hero to all who knew him. Bob graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1972. He was an outstanding athlete throughout his life, obtaining several all district honors in football and baseball in high school. He graduated from Texas Christian University and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After college, he partnered with his father in the cattle brokerage business at Alamo Livestock Commission for 11 years. Later, he was a ranch and land appraiser for Blair Stouffer & Associates, as well as a sales associate for Lone Star Overnight. With his wife, Lori, Bob purchased and operated an educational toy store, Learning Express, for the next 10 years. He then joined Kuper Sotheby's Farm and Ranch Division as a Sales Associate. Memorable times were spent at the baseball fields coaching his sons through little league and pony league and then watching them participate in various high school sports. As a father he dearly cherished his sons and made a lasting impression that has shaped them into the fine husbands and fathers they have become. Bob was a Texas Cavalier and Aide to King Antonio LXVI, a member of the German Club, the Order of the Alamo, the Town Club, and the San Antonio Country Club where he was on the MGA board. He was a Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association director, as well as a member of the Courtesy Committee of the San Antonio Livestock Show. He was also very proud to be a founding member of the Christ Healing Center. Bob enjoyed the fellowship with his Thursday Morning Bible Study Group and his annual trip to Casa Grande with the infamous Marathon Mountain Men. Bob leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Lori Ziegler Conger; his sons, Brent and Hunter and their wives, Hayley and Mary and his grandchildren, Hunt and Catie; his devoted mother, Sarah Williams Conger; brothers, Bill and John, their wives, Martha and Sherri; and numerous "CongCardStewZig" nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Lyles Conger and his sister, Jane Conger Cardwell. Bob's passion was just being in God's country whether it was being in the hill country, hunting in South Texas, or playing a round of golf. He loved sharing an entertaining hunting story and a big buck deer video, or reliving a competitive round of golf with his boys and good golf buddies. Lori and all her family would like to thank everyone for their tremendous outpouring of unconditional love and constant prayers for Bob. "A deep love for God and a gratitude for life and all the many blessings he had received." The family would like to especially thank the staff at START, Dr. Lon Smith, and Dr, Anthony Tolcher for their years of care and support.

Lori,
I'll always have great memories of my time with Bob at TCU. He was such good guy, but more telling maybe, is the fact that I haven't met anyone from San Antonio over the years who didn't know Bob and express the same fondness that we had of him. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Mr. Conger had a contagious personality, and whenever I was around him, he made me smile. I loved being around Mr. Conger, because he could always brighten up my day. My parents both adored him, and my father admired him as a wonderful golfer and good friend. We all have many fond memories of Bob to keep in our hearts.

To the Congers- We are thinking and praying for you.

I never met Bob, but I work with his brother John who deeply admired Bob for his open love for the Lord and willingness to witness to others about the greatness of Jesus Christ.

I did not know Bob well, but worked closely with him at
our company, Kuper Sothebys. He was a real encourager who gave me strength about our family decision to leave real estate and answer God's calling to move to PERU and do missionary work at an orphanage there long term. We will be moving to South America in April. Bob was extrordinarily kind to me and I really appreciated him taking the time, beyond our business, to share his heart with me.

I will miss out talks together.
