Helen Hopson Obituary
Helen Richter Hopson
Miss Helen Richter Hopson, much loved eldest child of Margaret Helen Jones Hopson and Fred S. Hopson, Jr., was born in Laredo on September 23, 1986 and passed away on September 14, 2009. Named for her maternal great grandmother, Helen was a lovely, vivacious young lady of uncommon beauty, who brought much joy to her large and loving family as well as her extended group of friends. A gifted linguist, Helen studied in the Laredo public schools and later at Liceo Anglo Frances in Monterrey Mexico, graduating from Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio in 2005. Helen attended Texas A&M International University in Laredo, and, at the time of her passing, was preparing for the customs brokers examination. Helen had a deep and abiding love for her family. The eldest of the Hopson grandchildren, Helen gave her grandfather Hopson the name "Fantoto," quite a moniker for such an elegant man, and all the younger cousins followed suit. Helen had an unusually close bond with her sister and brother, Elizabeth and Steeves, no doubt because she was such a devoted little mother to them when the family moved to San Antonio for Helen's mother to attend law school. Truly, this was a family endeavor, and would not have been possible without Helen's big sister help. Helen was presented by the Society of Martha Washington in 2005. She was an avid reader and enjoyed organizing celebrations for her many friends and loved ones. It is our desire that Helen live on in the many happy occasions her friends and family will celebrate for years to come. Helen was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Lorraine C. Hopson, and her paternal great grandmother, Cecilia Claflin. Our precious girl is survived by her mother, Margaret Helen Jones Hopson, and her father, Fred S. Hopson, Jr. (Angela), and her sister and best friend, Elizabeth Davies Hopson and brother, F. Steeves Hopson, III, as well as her half sister and brother, Kathleen and Darwin Hopson, whom Helen loved very much. Helen is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Julia Watson Jones and James K. Jones, Sr. and her paternal grandfather, Fred S. Hopson, Sr. Helen was blessed to be loved by her surviving aunts and uncles: James K. Jones, Jr.; Elizabeth Jones Rubio (Joe); Deborah Hopson Gilpin (Barry); Veronica Hopson Ramirez (Arturo); and David C. Hopson (Karen). Helen's surviving cousins, who will love and remember her always, are: Augusta and Kenton Jones; Joe, III, Margaret, Julia, Roberto and Diego Rubio; Hannah Gilpin; Jacqueline, Cassandra and Isabella Ramirez; and Alexandra and Miles Hopson. Finally, Helen is survived by her boyfriend, Miguel Bustos, with whom she shared a special love. Services in thanksgiving for Helen's life and to the glory of God will be held today, Friday, September 18, 2009 at Christ Church Episcopal in Laredo, Texas. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Internment will follow at family plot in Episcopal section in Laredo City Service.
