Robert Steiner Obituary

Robert Steiner died on December 13 in San Antonio. He was born on October 24, 1946, in Berkeley, California. Bob attended school in California, and briefly attended U. Cal. Berkeley. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1965, where he received his computer training and spent his military career in computer work. Upon discharge he settled in San Antonio, his home for the rest of his life. After leaving the military, Bob worked as a computer programmer for a variety of companies and organizations: the Region 290 Educational Service Center, the Government Employees Credit Union, Church's Fried Chicken, Southwest Business Corporation, and lastly EDS. Bob retired from EDS in 1999, but continued to do freelance computer consulting. Upon his retirement Bob devoted himself to his new passion, classical music. He was on the Boards of the San Antonio Chamber Music Society, where he was vice-president, Cactus Pear Music Festival, and the San Antonio International Piano Competition. He was an ardent supporter of the San Antonio Symphony and Texas Public Radio (KPAC), and volunteered his time and computer expertise to many of the San Antonio chamber music organizations, including the Olmos Ensemble and Camerata San Antonio. Bob was admired for his superior attention to detail and dedication to any job he was asked to do, both in his professional life and in his post-retirement volunteering. Bob is survived by his parents, Seth J. and Jane B. Steiner Jr., of Oakland, and by his younger brothers John and Tom. A Memorial Chamber Music Concert will be held to honor Bob and his love of classical music, and to remember his invaluable service and dedication to music in San Antonio. The Memorial Concert will take place Monday, January 9 at 7 PM, at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio. All those who have been touched by Bob's service to the Arts in San Antonio are encouraged to take this opportunity to honor his memory.
