This Thursday it will 15 years since you took your healing skills to the next realm. There is not a day goes by without a remembrance of you. Damn Murph, we had some interesting times. I hope my eulogy at your Memorial Service met your expectations. Love you

Knew "Murph" (as he insisted I call him) well, road bikes with him on several occasions and sipped Heinekens on his patio afterwards. A great man who left us too soon. Miss you, Murph.

Well thank you John Hayes for posting the link to the basketball game. That was a fun treat! My husband and I and all our kids were John's first neighbors when he moved to La Jolla goodness THIRTY-FIVE years ago. I always remember because one of my sons was born the month he came rolling in with blasting music and a moving van. I think of John quite a lot, for no reason really except to think What can I do for you John Murphy?' Just by a strange fluke when I was searching for an address online for my 18 yr old son's friend some years ago, it was the strangest experience that up popped John Murphy's picture online, and then his obituary right below the photo. I had no idea John had died... it was three months after his passing and I think John just wanted me to know, for which I am very grateful. I hope you Chris Murphy and you John Jr Murphy are doing well these days. I did not know John's other family very well, but you two boys, now grown men, I knew very well... love to all of you who love John... p. Kressin

This is a video of John playing in the 1964 State Championship game as a senior in high school. He was one of the co-captains on that team.

My condolences to the Murphy family. Yesterday I had a Podiatry appointment because I fractured my foot February 5th, 2019, literally 19 years to the day February 5th, 2000 I had a freak accident at Lake Jennings in Lakeside California and was taken to Kaiser Hospital Zion where Dr. Murphy did my tib fib spiral fracture intra medullary rodding the very next morning. I had a very traumatic injury that has affected my life greatly as in 2007 I developed severe Fibromyalgia and have been told that the trauma I sustained may be due to the injury as trauma is suspect in a high percentage of cases. Dr. Murphy had told me it was one of the worst tib fib spiral fractures that Kaiser had seen, I returned to him a couple of times for continuing problems but here it is 19 years later and though I have chronic venous insufficiency now and I still have problems with my leg because it broke so bad I will never forget Dr. Murphy, I am walking because of him, the nurse told me the reason why he did my surgery was because he was the best and my injury was the worst, I will never forget when he came in and told me I had a 50-50 chance of never walking normal again, but he did an outstanding job on my leg and I still walk normal most of the time considering the amount of damage I had, he performed a second surgery 10 months later to remove hardware which helped ease some of the pain. So I saw my podiatrist yesterday, Dr Korn, and he said you were a great guy and is surely missed, I keep replaying in my head the many different times we talked about my leg, so many things I could remember still and it saddens me to think that the person who saved my leg is no longer with us but now everytime I take a step or take out my little package of screws you gave me as a souvenir i will always remember who saved my leg. I was shocked to hear of the news and very saddened. I have to thank you so very much for doing such an outstanding job that I am still walking to this very day and will always be grateful not just to the doctor but the man who worked hours on my leg so that I could live close to normal of a life still, God bless you in heaven, I will never forget you. RIP...❤

Just came across this link in my bookmarks. Forgot I had it. Been thinking about you a lot for some reason, Murph, and then here you are! I miss your smile, your wit and your kind and generous heart. You always told me I needed to get out of a certain situation and I think you had something to do with giving me the out I needed since it happened a month after you left us. Thanks for that! We had so much fun in our drives back from the desert in your Prius after our 12 hr clinic days, chatting about life, laughing, and taking pictures of the desert sunsets. You loved your sunsets! I miss talking to you about life's challenges and your guidance. A lot has changed since you left that I wish I could tell you about. I think it would make you happy that I was able to make happen what we talked about. I so wish you were still here. You are loved and missed very much. I hope you're having a good time and I'll see you on the other side, my friend.....C

Dr. Murphy, you helped me with a very serious, life changing ankle injury in 1986. I was your first ankle fusion. Over the years I have given thanks to you for giving me the quality of life I have been able to have since my surgery. You have always remained my favorite doctor ever since, even though I have not been seen by you since. Your compassion and sincere caring is not forgotten. I Googled your name tonight to see if you were still at Kaiser as I wanted to drop you a letter to tell you that your first ankle fusion circa 1986 is still 'kicking' around and you did a fine job! I was stunned and so, so saddened to find this obituary. You made such a difference in my life as you have for so many others. It is not often a patient whom one has not seen in 30 years still reveres you so, and gives thanks each day to you that I can walk and enjoy daily activities because of you. I know this is how all of your patients feel about you. Although I am unable to send that letter of thanks and let you know how my ankle is, I know that you are now watching from heaven looking down on all of us. Rest In Peace Dr. Murphy.

I had no idea and was not told our Dear John Murphy passed in March of this year. John was a dear friend to our Kressin and Parma Family. He was a neighbor for many years and we did keep in touch after we moved a 'few miles away'. My husband David and all of our children join me in expressing our great love to all of John's family, friends and those who loved him as we have. May God Bless you and be with you. I have no doubt there is a Heaven Above and that we will all meet again when it is our turn to pass through the veil from this world to the next. Until then, we can rest assured John is in the embrace of his mother, father, siblings and The Good Lord in The Heavens Above. I send you my sincerest condolences and expression of love, Patricia Kressin.

John and I enjoyed our time together sharing ideas on many issues during the time he led the department, and we worked together in the operating room as well. He was a good and faithful friend, and a valued colleague. I shall miss him.

Dear Murphy Family and Friends,
Like everyone else, I was very shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. My sincerest condolences to everyone. Murph was a great guy and great athlete at Gloucester Catholic High School in NJ.It was a blessing that so many of his classmates got to see him in October. I hadn't seen him since we had a very nice conversation at our high school's 40th anniversary of John's team having won the NJ State Basketball Championship. There is still a great photo in the school of that team with Murph right in the middle holding up his finger indicating that they were #1. He was a happy guy and that day was a great one for him, his teammates, and our whole school.

What a loss. I was an RN on the PM shift in the 1980s and enjoyed working with Dr. Murphy very much. He always helped me with any problem I had with a patient. My co workers and I were always happy to see him arrive on the ward.

I played basketball with John on the 1964 NJ State Championship team at GCHS. He was Co-Captian of that team and Captain of his Bucknell College team because not only of his leadership skills, but mainly because of his people skills. John's legacy will be his kindness, friendship, caring, and love of people and life. His soul will live on and always be with us.
