A.J. Jerry' Coenen-Brown April 3, 1928 - December 3, 2015 SAN DIEGO Born August Jerome Coenen Brown in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to parents Donald and Dorothy Brown, Jerry Brown had four brothers and sisters: William, Jean, Richard, and Pat. Even as a young San Diegan, Jerry was an outgoing, creative leader with a well-developed sense of humor. His high school yearbook states that he was the Senior Class President, Skating Club President, Prom Chairman, and that one of his passion's was "the Motorboat Serenade' which he erupts with every so often during school hours." After high school, Jerry attended the seminary, was ordained a priest, was headmaster at a prep school for young men, and earned several university degrees. Jerry eventually left the priesthood and married Francia J. Carrier. Jerry and Francia had five lovely children together. The family ultimately settled in Dubuque, IA where Jerry worked at a Catholic liberal arts college. Jerry and Francia parted ways and Jerry returned to Southern California to be closer to his supportive siblings and to the welcoming arms of the city that he was so fond of. Jerry's lucky stars smiled down on him and he met and married the love of his life Colleen (Yancey) Dolan. Jerry and Colleen loved, supported, and completed each other in the most beautiful way. Jerry and Colleen enjoyed traveling, exploring, and enjoying the world together, just like two lovebirds do; soaring off together, wild and free. Jerry and Colleen also took great pleasure in visiting their children and grandchildren together. Jerry's best qualities can be seen in his children and grandchildren, who are also charming, funny, original, gregarious, fearless, warm and friendly, driven, intelligent, and deeply spiritual beings.Jerry passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife and in the thoughts, prayers, and hearts of his brother, Richard; five children: Jerry (Holly), Dori (Scott Brown), Brian (Mariah), Michael (Lindsay), and Meghan (Chad) Johnson; with the help of Colleen's children: Billy Yancey, Mark Yancey, Paul Yancey, and Barbara Yancey (John Franklin); 14 grandchildren: Michaela, Gus, Kess, Cate, Willow, Fischer, Cece, Stellie, Hollie (Singer), Hazel (Singer), Emma, Eli, Leyna and Isaac Brown; family and friends.A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 1770 Kearney Ave., San Diego, CA 92113, on Monday, December 14th, 2015. A reception is to follow.
