Anne Therese Heywood Obituary
Anne Therese Heywood January 19, 1937 - July 4, 2018 Solana Beach Anne Heywood, longtime Solana Beach resident, hostess and volunteer, died peacefully at home on July 4 after a long illness. Anne was born in Romford, Essex, England, to William and Florence Hobart, and moved to London as a young person. She loved the contemporary music scene and frequented the underground jazz clubs of Soho with neighbors and school friends. Anne came to America in 1962 with her first husband, Douglas Chapman, a professional figure skater; they were divorced in 1968. She settled in Beverly Hills where she met the love of her life, Les Heywood, and they were married in 1971. They moved to San Diego when Les went to work for Cubic Corporation, finally settling in the beautiful Solana Beach home that they shared for over 35 years. Anne worked in the Downtown San Diego offices of Bank of California for many years until her retirement. Les and Anne were avid travelers, enjoying visits to Italy with her sister and brother-in law, Joyce and Tino Campi. They were frequent visitors to England and the South of France, and also enjoyed an unforgettable trip on the Orient Express. After Les's death in 2015, Anne's many friends became her surrogate family. Her Solana Beach walking group included her in regular activities from morning coffee and movie dates to happy hour celebrations; she spent holidays with Mary Ellen Clark and her family, who welcomed her warmly. Anne was active in Circle of Friends of North County, Children's Home Society and Las Proveedores del Norte; her great thoughtfulness and kindness were cherished by all who knew her. Anne is survived by her sister, Joyce Campi of Genoa, Italy; cousins Beth and Bill White of Somerset, England; and the Jones family, especially honorary granddaughters Victoria Davis and Alexandra Jones. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Scripps Hospital, Best of Care and Hospice by the Sea, and to her many devoted friends and neighbors, especially Brice and Liz Dinsmore, and Geoff and Liz Boyes. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 21; please contact [email protected] for details.
