CAROLYN HUDSON Obituary

HUDSON, CAROLYN ANNE C.Anne, Colonel (Ret.) Attorney At Law C.Anne Hudson passed away on October 6, 2009, in her Mt. Helix, CA home at the young age of 64. She is survived by her daughter, Leigha, son-in-law, Jorge Serrano, and her sister, Nancy Sumerall. Her husband of 44 years, Lt. Col. Skip Hudson, passed away on December 31, 2008. C.Anne was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 25, 1944, the daughter of Dr. Harry A. Koss and Nancy Ridge Koss, RN, both of whom predeceased her. She spent her younger years in the Midwest and moved to Florida with her parents in 1962, where C.Anne graduated high school at the age of 16. She then attended the University of Florida and worked at the Office of Education in Ft. Myers, for Skip's father. Their fathers introduced and encouraged their courtship and they married on July 2, 1966. C.Anne was and continued to be an enthusiastic partner in Skip's military career. C.Anne graduated with honors with a B.A. in Secondary English Specialization from the University of Florida. She taught middle and high school English in the public schools in Florida and Hawaii for three years. Thereafter, C.Anne entered the Marine Corps in 1974, she more than proved herself by completing "The Basic School," TBS in Quantico, VA, graduating top in her class. She was the first woman with a dependent child and oldest woman to be commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. After graduation, she was then meritoriously augmented into the regular Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. C.Anne was the first woman in the U.S. Marine Corps to be appointed as a Legal Administrative Officer where she served for three years. It was there that she developed her passion for the law and was selected to attend law school on a military scholarship. She graduated magna cum laude from the University Of San Diego School Of Law in 1980 and served for six years as a Marine trial attorney and attorney instructor for the Marines and the Navy in law. In 1980, C.Anne was nominated by the Dean of USD and selected as one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America." She then received a Masters Law degree in Taxation from the University Of San Diego School Of Law in 1984. C.Anne joined the law firm of Littler, Mendelson, Fastiff, Tichy & Mathiason in 1986 where she became a shareholder shortly thereafter. From 1986 until March of 1997, C.Anne practiced public school law and employment law, on behalf of employers in the Firm's public sector department. C.Anne's successful defense of employers was evidenced by numerous published decisions by California courts in jurisdictions from San Diego to Sacramento. In March of 1997, with partner Richard Currier, the law firm of Currier & Hudson, a Professional Law Corporation, was formed to provide a more economical delivery of quality legal services to public school and community college districts. In 2004, C.Anne retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. C.Anne continued to successfully represent public school employers and municipalities throughout the state of California until her retirement June 30, 2009, as President and shareholder of Currier & Hudson. C.Anne was admired and respected by everyone she worked with over her career. C.Anne was a strong, positive influence on her family and friends whom she held most dear. She loved her beautiful rose-gardens, spoiled her Dachshunds and travel always thrilled her. We are celebrating her life with a military service to be held on October 29, 2009, promptly at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Those who wish to attend should assemble by 2:45 p.m. at the cemetery office to be taken to the site of the service. Please Google Rosecrans National Cemetery and view map for directions. I am saddened by news of Col Hudson's passing. As a United States Marine, she earned the trust, respect and admiration of all with whom she served, and she set the standard of excellence for generations of Marines yet to come. I am honored to have known her. Well done, Marine.

I was very sorry to hear the news, and also sad that our families had so little contact after they moved to Florida. I remember C. Anne (a first cousin) from the time we were children here in Indiana. She certainly grew to be an outstanding person, and someone I certainly wish I had known better.

I will miss this great woman. I've associated with her over the last 12 years and have admired her patriotism and her work. Her humility is overwhelming as I never knew about any of her many great accomplishments mentioned in her obituary. I'm sure Skip is happy to have her by his side again.
