She also served as President of the PTA at Memorial Junior High and San Diego High School respectively.Mrs. Horton's accomplishments at Stockton/King Elementary School can be traced back to the late forties when her children Ida and Willie enrolled in then what was called Stockton Elementary, after transferring from the Fairhaven Elementary School located on 32nd Street in the old Navy Housing Projects. Mrs. Horton collected March of Dimes contributions, worked on Halloween carnivals, coordinated field trips, assisted with administering polio shots to students, and worked door-to- door on a school bond issue to build new schools. Mrs. Horton worked with Dr. Ralph Dillard, Superintendent of San Diego City Schools, on the Superintendent's Council, which had oversight for seven elementary feeder schools to Memorial Junior High.Carrie Horton has left a rich legacy of enthusiastic leadership, love, and affection to so many children and families of the Greater San Diego Community.
