David Alan Batt Obituary
David Batt, the former Finance Director of the City of South Pasadena, passed away from advanced metastatic prostate cancer on Oct. 25, 2018, at the age of 64. He had previously been the Finance Director of the City of Avalon in Catalina. David was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, grew up in Sharon, Mass. and lived in San Diego for many years. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BS in psychology, and completed a year of graduate studies at UC Berkeley.

In addition to his career in finance, David was an accomplished musician. He began taking piano lessons at the age of four, and later played in jazz, rock and blues bands. In the late 70's, he composed, performed and directed music for several theatrical productions in San Diego. David recorded six CDs, which can be found on You Tube and Amazon. His classical CDs were under his own name. New Age music lovers knew him as Yrsan Daro. In addition, he wrote a satirical novel and a science fiction screenplay.

David is survived by his sisters Laurie Aker and Valerie Batt and by his nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held on Sat., Dec. 8th at 11:00 in the Community Room at the South Pasadena Library, 1115 El Centro St., South Pasadena. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.
