Douglas M. Selik December 24, 1925 - February 1, 2019 San Diego On February 1, 2019 Douglas M. Selik passed away at the age of 93 in San Diego, CA, where he had resided for the past 61 years. He was born in Detroit, MI, and was the only child of Bernard W. and Celia Selik. During his teen years, he was sent to Los Angeles to live with relatives while his mother recovered from TB. He went to Fairfax High for a year but returned to Detroit to graduate from Central High School. Doug got the taste for the warm SoCal weather, so after his 2 years of service in the Air Force during WWII, he returned to Los Angeles. There he met and is survived by the love of his life of 68 years, Janet S. (Duitz) Selik. He is also survived by children Nancy Selik Pritchard (Alan Shanedling), William"Bill" Selik (Nancy Ann), and preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Randy Verholtz (Gary). He was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Joshua Verholtz (Nicole), Jason Verholtz (Alicia), Heidi Verholtz-Navarro (Erik), Douglas Selik (Vanessa), Cameron Selik, Mary Lou Selik, and Hunter Pritchard, along with 5 great and 5 step-great-grandchildren whom he all dearly loved. In 1958 Dougmovedhis family to San Diego when he went to work for Fed Mart. His career with Fed Mart started as a buyer and he ran the distribution center along with helping set up stores in Arizona. In 1964, Sol Price set him up in his own franchise store in the College area of San Diego. It was there that he instilled a strong work ethic in his children and the many people he employed who helped him become a success in business. He retired at the age of 54 and had continued success in real estate. Doug's family and his many dear friends were the most important aspect of his life and he will be missed by ALL. Service: Wednesday, February 6, 11:00am at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, 6001 W. Centinela Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90045.
