Cute story: found a black lab tied to a dumpster behind a Mexican restaurant. Took him home and now he's my doggo. Named him TJ which is short for Taco Joe. Thank you, Jane, for that cute beginning piece you wrote -- and for helping me to name my new dog!

I wanted to write to James Bastien to thank him for the joys he is giving this adult beginner during this tragic time, and then I learned he had died, then I thought I would write to his wife for the same, but then i saw she too had passed away.
It saddens me so much that these two people who gave us so much are gone, and that I can't thank them.
I wish there was some way to do so much more,
Karen

Still using her teaching materials. Jane will never be gone from this earth as long as good piano teachers use Bastien materials.

I'm devastated by her passing. I wasn't her best student but she was my best teacher. Mrs. Bastien made me enjoy music. She had so much patience. She was so dedicated to everyone around her. You always think that she would be here forever and then now she isn't. I'm at lost for words. She was so kind and treated me like a family member. I practiced at her house for hours and hours while she gave me multiple lessons during the day. She always gave me my piano lesson at the end of the day so there would be no time constraint. I'll never forget the meals we had together. She loved the Thai crunch chicken salad at CPK. Mrs. Bastien even offered to have me stay at her house when my parents were away. She was so giving. She was so happy when I was accepted to medical school and when I graduated from anesthesia residency and when I became a partner with my anesthesia group. She really cares about her students. I remember the times when she felt I urgently needed more lessons before the San Diego symphony young artists concerto competition and she had me over every day for a lesson. It paid off. She never needed to teach students for income. She taught students to enrichen lives and enhance our love for music. I will miss her forever.

As a small child, I lived next door to Gladys Smisor in Hutchinson, Kansas. One of my earliest memories, at the age of 3, was knocking on her door to ask if I could listen while she gave piano lessons. I remember seeing Jane during a visit and I recall she was beautiful and most kind. When Jane married, Gladys called me to her house and gave me a bouquet from her wedding. Gladys was so proud of Jane and talked often about her. They were wonderful people. From humble beginnings Jane and her husband built an enduring legacy. My sincere condolences to Jane's family for their loss.

Her obitiuary was this weekend. I've known her since kindergaten and I thought she'd always be around. I really took her for granted and I wish I was more grateful, but I am so lucky to have spent time with her. She really did live a beautiful life. My prayers are with her and her family. Thank you Ms. Bastien.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Jane's passing. When I lived in the San Diego area, Jane and Jim visited with us, and I also visited with Jane in La Jolla. She contributed so much to the musical world - and will always be remembered for her graciousness and and friendship.

What will we do without her? She changed the way piano was taught and how students learned. She will be missed but her legacy will live on forever.

I am very sad to learn of Jane's passing and send my deepest condolences to her family. The years I spent taking piano lessons in New Orleans with Jane have been a tremendous blessing. She was a brilliant teacher and truly a caring person. She lives in my heart and anytime I feel overwhelmed by a task, I just remember her phenomenal organization and spirit of deep caring and excellence and I have the strength I need to carry on. RIP dear Jane. What a shining gift you are to this world.

Dear Lori and family, so sorry to read of the passing of your mother. I loved going to her house with my daughter, Kerry, for piano lessons. She contributes to her past that piano lessons were the foundation of her success. she is now a BSN at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston. Your mother's love and devotion helped her along the way, as well as yours, Lori. I am so very sorry for your mother's passing.
Sending love,
