Jerald Lee Katleman March 13, 1931 - January 10, 2018 San Diego Jerry Katleman, a real estate developer and business leader, passed away peacefully at home on January 10th surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 13, 1931 in Omaha, NE, the eldest of three children. He graduated from Babson University and attended Wharton School of Business before joining the US Navy, serving as Lieutenant in the Korean War. He was instrumental in building affordable housing in Park Forest, IL, and in San Diego, CA. He was one of the founders of California Heritage Bank in Hillcrest in the 1970s. Jewish causes were important to him and he served on the boards of Congregation Beth Israel, the Jewish Community Foundation and Seacrest Village. An enthusiastic golfer, tennis player, traveler and collector of fine wines, he cultivated friendships wherever he went. Jerry was a loving and devoted father and husband. His greatest pleasure was his family and he took enormous pride in their accomplishments. He was known for beginning every family gathering with the pronouncement "Aren't we lucky!" He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret Katleman, daughters Laura Katleman, Beth Katleman, Suzanne Emge, Stephanie Katleman, Karen Battenberg and Cynthia Battenberg, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brother Joel Katleman and sister Janice Wayne. His memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 12th at Congregation Beth Israel, 9001 Towne Centre Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Beth Israel or Jewish Family Service in his memory.
