Cameron, John 05/29/1920 ~ 01/18/2015 LAKESIDE -- John Cameron, a member of one of the pioneer families of Santee, passed away at his home in Lakeside, January 18, 2015. He was born at home in Santee, California on May 29, 1920 where he lived most of his life until moving to Lakeside in 2003. He attended Grossmont High School and was in the Navy during World War II. When he returned home after the war, John joined his brother William Cameron and formed Cameron Brothers Construction Company. They were members of AGC, EGCA and BIA. John and Shirley were married for over sixty years, they loved hunting, fishing, camping and were able to do a little traveling. In later years, they divided their time between Santee and the Borrego Springs housing development and Resort. John became a member of the Lakeside Historical Society as well as the Santee Historical Society and enjoyed conversations about "the way it used to be". He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and his parents Emily and William Cameron as well as brothers Harry Cameron, William Cameron and James Cameron. Survivors include daughter Sharlene J. Cameron of El Cajon, sons John A Cameron II (Jack) of Lakeside and Terry W Cameron of El Cajon, grandchildren John A Cameron III, Stacy Conery, Terri Jo Bailey, Heather Squibb, Tracey Coker, Austin Cameron, Chad Cameron and 16 great-grandchildren all of whom will miss his smile and the great pride he took in their lives. Thank you to John and his brothers Bill and Jim for all they did for our family. We were a young couple starting out in 1966 and coming up short on paying the bills. The Cameron's helped us get past that pothole and we are very grateful for all the help we received from them and other family members. Our success is directly related to their intervention in our lives. Cameron is an often spoken name in our home. Thank you to all of you and yes, you do have some big shoes to fill.

I worked John and Bill building and managing the Borrego Springs Resort. I learned so much from both brothers. Their knowledge and patience with me, helped me start and run my own Hotel Management Company Aaron Brothers Enterprises Inc. Every time I see and old D8 or water truck I think of John. I still carry duck tape everywhere as per John. Every time I eat prime rib I think of my dinners with John and Shirley (she was so sweet to my daughters)On a job site when when I see a van coming and a pile of dust following I still think it's John coming. No words can express how much I learned from John Cameron, I use the knowledge he gave me everyday and pass it on. My third daughter I named in The Brothers honor, her name is Cameron Biggers.

John you were a great man, me and my daughter's thank you.

Daddy, we wish you fair winds and following seas. You cast a tall shadow and left us with boots too big for us to fill. We promise to do our best to carry on as you would wish. Your kids, Sharlene, Jack and Terry.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Cameron's family. Even though we were neighbors a few years, I never had the honor of meeting him. May he go with God. John ( JC ) and Darla Cole, ( Cliff and Edna daughter)

We remember how playful John was, when we staying at the Beach House in 2011, and John popped in to see if we wanted to "go on a little road trip". We went to Borego Springs Resort, the Sultan Sea, & Fond's Point. We returned in a heavy downpour that flooded the roads. Not to worry, we were in John's big, beautiful Cadillac! Wonderful memories! Your traveling buddies, John & Sandy Campbell
