John Gardner Ing April 9, 1933 - August 28, 2018 San Diego Our beloved friend, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully on August 28, 2018 at age 85. He was born April 9, 1933 in Ottawa, Canada, to Mabel Priscilla (Gardner) Ing and Harold John Ing. He and his first wife, Aline (Elena) Geovanina (Carbonette) Ing, were married in 1954 and had three children.John became interested in airplanes in his youth while participating in a Royal Canadian Air Force Cadet program near his home. That led him to the field of photogrammetry where he got a job with the Canadian Government making maps from stereo aerial photographs. He and his family emigrated to the United States in 1963, where he continued in photogrammetry at various companies in California. John became a U. S. Citizen in 1972. He was well respected in the photogrammetric field, eventually owning his own company. He missed mapping so much after retiring in 2000, that he decided to go back to it as a part time consultant, which he continued with until this year. He had worked in photogrammetry for more than 60 years.John volunteered with many organizations throughout his life. He was a scout leader while raising his children. He also served as a Board member or officer in homeowner associations and community service organizations such as Kiwanis, Community Planning Groups, Campo Rural Fire Department, and Mountain Health & Community Services. John was a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteer and very active and dedicated for the last several years as a Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteer in Riverside County, helping those needing immediate assistance after fires and floods. He was also an active member in the Golden Triangle Amateur Radio Club (GTARC) in southwest Riverside County.John was predeceased by his brother Earnest. He is survived by his sister Joan; wife of 28 years Alissa; sons Mike and Bruce and daughter Cindy; seven grandchildren: Mike, DJ, Nick, Maria, Jenny, Grayson and John; and nine great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Brendan, Dylan, Mason, Isabella, Evelyn, Julienna, Adelin and Catalina.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The American Red Cross. A Celebration of Life event for John is being planned by the family for a later date.
