One of the very few staff members I remember from when I was a student in Basic School at Quantico in 1955 is then-Major Ken Houghton, our tactics instructor; The fact that I remember him over 50 years later is a tribute to his dynamism and leadership. We 2nd lieutenants all would have been proud to serve under him, and had no doubt that he would one day be a general. I salute you, both as the major I remember, and the general you became.

We were so sorry to learn about General Hougton's passing and send our love and prayers to Punky and his brother, and sisters. We spent several great years living as neighbors in Makalapa, Oahu in 1969-1971. It remains one of the most memorable times in my memory. My mother and father, Dave and Jeanne Richardson, also send their condolences to the family, and wish everyone well.

I knew General Houghton from my seven years at Applied Data Technology. I always had the highest respect for his remarkable career in the Marines and his genuine character. What I remember most was his weekly stop in accounting to get quarters from me for the driving range, always with a smile and encouragement for "the troops". I offer my deepest condolences to his family.

Goodbye General. You'll be missed by your wonderful children Penny, Pam, Sam and Punk, your many grandchildren, those who served with you in the Marine Corps and by those, like me, who had the privilege of knowing you outside of the Corps. You were a good man, a good father and alot of fun to be around.
