Kevin Lawrence Stephenson

STEPHENSON KEVIN LAWRENCE Kevin Lawrence Stephenson, a true son of Ireland and a devout Roman Catholic, joined his mother, Norene Harriet Aubrey and his father, Francis Leighton Stephenson, in God ' s eternal kingdom this past Sunday, March 7. Born November 25, 1954, Kevin was 49, far too young to leave this earth. He truly had miles left to travel and so many aspirations left to realize. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Janice, and by his son Gabriel, in whom he invested a lifetime of great hope in the few short years they had together. Kevin lived in the San Diego community through much of his adult life, settling in Poway almost a dozen years ago. Trained as a lawyer, Kevin was in private practice beginning in 1985 with the San Diego firm of Stutz, Gallagher & Artiano and then achieving partnership in the firm of Shifflet, Walters, Kane & Konoske in 1989. In 2001, he joined the state of California, Cal Trans Legal Division as a staff litigator, where he remained practicing his craft until just before his passing. Kevin lived a multi-faceted life - a sportsman, a humanitarian, an extraordinary brother, a true friend - he offered strength to those in need, and genuine affection to all with whom he came in contact. From the elysian fields of Fullerton, California to his athletic career first at Servite High School in Anaheim and then onto his beloved alma mater of Washington State University, Kevin was always a fierce competitor, but principled in every life interaction. He was a decent and honorable man whose compass pointed always in the direction of truth and compassion. He was a man who could be counted upon in both the bleakest and warmest of moments. All of us, friends and family alike, will forever miss the incredible warmth of his presence. We are thankful that he is now at home with the Father, where we look forward to being with him once more. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 12, at 1 p.m. at St. Michael ' s Catholic Church, located at 15546 Pomerado Road in Poway. A Rosary will be offered on Thursday evening, March 11, at 7 p.m., at the Poway-Bernardo Mortuary located at 13243 Poway Road in Poway. In lieu of flowers, an educational trust fund is being established on behalf of Kevin ' s son, Gabriel, who was chosen to attend University of San Diego High School this past weekend. This was Kevin ' s deepest wish for Gabriel as he begins his journey to manhood.
