Lucille Ann Miller 1928 - 2018 SAN DIEGO Our beloved mother Lucille Ann Miller, 89, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully in her home on June 2, 2018. Born December 20, 1928 in Chicago, Ill, she is predeceased by her parents, Lester C. and Lucille (Swank) Hegele of Chicago, Ill, and her late husband of 55 years, Donald Miller, of San Diego, CA. Her survivors include her children Karyn Meadows (Bill), Susan Jonkers, Diana Sturiale (Jim), her five grandchildren, Lindsay Jonkers, Jeremy Jonkers (Sky), Erica Watkins (Robert), Kara Sturiale (AJ), Devin Meadows and two great-grandchildren Emerson Watkins and Payton Jonkers.As the primary caregiver to her daughters, Luci balanced her love of painting and piano, with school activities, charitable work, tennis, and during the summer, swimming lessons for the neighborhood children. Luci was a PTA member during school years and was very involved in volunteering for Children's Hospital. She painted and sculpted and commissioned many of her artworks through a San Diego art gallery. She also loved to garden in her large yard and did garden design for customers in San Diego. Luci was an accomplished seamstress who sewed many of her outfits and reupholstered furniture pieces.Once her daughters were grown, Luci was a Court Clerk for the Superior Court of San Diego and a realtor for several years. Luci enjoyed traveling on tours and cruises with Don and spending time with her family.In 1994, Luci joined Chapter K of P.E.O International, a philanthropic organization. Some of the positions that she served in P.E.O were Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary, and yearbook designer. Luci was a very detail-oriented, outgoing person who loved learning and was fascinated by all things scientific. She was a strong, active and resilient woman who overcame many years of health struggles prior to her death.A private family interment will be held at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery. At Luci's request, no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to one of Luci's favorite charities, Smile Train, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute or St. Jude's Research Hospital.
