Mae Pryor Obituary
After a long, active life filled with many great friends and colorful memories, long-time Escondido resident, Mae Pryor, died peacefully at age 92. Born in 1925, Mae moved from a North Dakota farm to Escondido in the 1940's. Mae was vivacious, and no wallflower. She was active in several business and civic organizations. Mae was the President of the Escondido Soroptimists, and the first female member and Chairman of the Chamber Of Commerce Ambassador's Club. She was an organizer of Escondido Grape Days, as well as Escondido's 75th Anniversary Celebration. Mae loved people, and it showed. She was known for decades as the face of the Grand Avenue cornerstone, Hoffman's Pharmacy, managing the front of the store, and filling in at the store's soda fountain to serve up their famous phosphate sodas or malts. Mae also worked for many years at the Lawrence Welk Resort gift shop. Up until she was nearly 90, Mae was still modeling outfits in the Draper's & Damon's fashion shows. Mae gave back to her community by volunteering at the Joslyn Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, birds, and, of course, visiting with friends. Mae was buried next to her husband, George, at the Riverside National Cemetery in a private ceremony. She is survived by daughter, Diane, and son, Bob. One of the signs of a life well-lived is that while Mae's family and friends will miss her dearly, the thought of her will forever bring a smile.
