Mary Ethys Alcock Obituary
Mary Ethys Alcock January 28, 1954 - December 20, 2018 San Diego On the morning of December 20, 2018 Mary Ethys Alcock passed away peacefully surrounded by her partner and her immediate family at the young age of 64. She was a beloved partner, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and colleague and just before Christmas unexpectedly became our guardian angel. Still there, still watching over and loving us just from further away now and missed every single second since.Mary was founder and President of the firm, Alcock & McFadden Employment Consultants, Inc. Since 1996, Alcock & McFadden managed human resource projects from executive searches and staffing, compensation structure development, compliance and employment relations consulting services. Clients benefited through Mary's expertise and consortium of consultants in a broad range of industries that spanned the biosciences, telecommunications and technology, manufacturing, service industries and municipalities. Mary was a proud graduate of SDSU, taught HR Management for 20 years with SDSU and UCSD's extension programs and served on UCSD's Advisory Board for the HR Extension classes. Mary has been a finalist in San Diego Women Who Mean Business Award Program. Additionally, she served as an appointed Commissioner for the City of San Diego's Human Relations Commission and served on the Board of BEDC. She was fiercely and unapologetically herself, wildly generous to those closest to her and to so many she hardly knew. She was an incredible businesswoman and entrepreneur, and was known for the most unique and quirky sense of humor and quick wit. Mary loved her family, San Diego sports, the ocean, sailing, and was an avid gardener of beautiful flowers and plants. It had been said before in a speech delivered by a dear friend many years earlier, that Mary's whole life is gardening and that her company was proof of that. Through her company she was constantly planting seeds of opportunity for others so that they could grow grow professionally, as people, and in friendship. The same could be said of her life and friendships outside her company.Mary is survived by a loving, tight knit family comprised of her Partner of 27 years Jackie, Mother Charlene, Sister Lorene Salcido, 2 Nieces and their husbands Wende & Matthew Schneider and Cassie & Jeremy Templeman, 2 Nephews Andrew Salcido and Brad Fenton, Cousin Terry Fenton, former partner and close friend Michelle. She was also the proud Grand-Aunt of 4 grand nieces and was lovingly called, "Nom" by her family and by so many others that she took in as family. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 24th at 1:30pm at the Bali Hai Restaurant (2230 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego, California 92106). We welcome those that knew and loved her to attend as we remember and celebrate the light that she was in all of our lives."If I had a flower for every time I think of you, I could walk in my garden forever."
