Mary Lynette Lockwood Branin September 9, 2018 Escondido Mary Lynette Lockwood Branin, 89, of Escondido, CA, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on September 9, 2018, surrounded by family.She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Herman Johnson Branin and four children: Lynette Marie Humphrey, Ellen Humphrey Cooke, Jeanne Ryan (Michael), and Steven Branin (Jayne). Her son, Gary Branin preceded her in death in 2002. She is also survived by her brother, John Lockwood (Maxine) and her daughter-in-law Wendy Branin, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her sister, Florence Achten preceded her in death also.Mary was born and lived most of her life as a homemaker in Eastern Escondido, marrying in 1950 and living in the house her father built on Encanto Drive from the 1960s to 2005.She was an avid volunteer, earning her 2500-hour pin as a Pink Lady at Palomar Memorial Hospital. In addition she volunteered at the Escondido Historical Society, Girl Scouts, and the Orange Glen PTA. She was also a regular blood donor.Mary and Herman enjoyed a huge circle of friends and the Escon-Do-Cs Square Dance Club. She also belonged to the East End Club and the Happy Hookers, a knitting group of old friends. Mary loved to travel, visiting many of the state and national parks in the United States, as well as many destinations around the world. She is fondly remembered for her keen sense of humor, her full cookie jar, her homemade pies, and her afghans.A private service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Escondido History Center Endowment Foundation, PO Box 263, Escondido, CA 92033.
