Obituary Condolences

PIEL, PHILIP JOHN March 18, 1942 to May 22, 2010 Phil passed away at his home in Escondido after a brief battle with cancer. Phil believed in two basic ideas, if you're going to do it, do it right and do the right thing, especially when nobody is looking. Known for his generosity and sense of humor Phil enjoyed life and was loved and admired by those who knew him. He believed in working hard and enjoying the results of his labor and had the ability to talk to you instead of at you. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband and father who led by example. Phil also believed that golf lessons were a waste of time and the answer to a missed putt was buying a new putter. He firmly believed there wasn't a shelf life on a joke, that they just get funnier especially after thirty or forty times. Phil's professional career over the last 45 years was spent in the insurance field. He was instrumental and considered an expert in creating programs for contractors. Along with his partner, Patrick Flynn Phil, co-owned West Coast Group Benefits. His industry knowledge along with his ethics made him a person you'd want to be associated with. Phil was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Eileen, his second wife Mary and son Lee. His memory will live on through his wife Agnes, son Philip and daughter-in-law Marie, daughters Cathy and son-in-law Craig Neeley, and Patty, brothers Leo and sister-in-law Ruth Ann, and Ricky; grandchildren Katie, Nick and Jordan; nephews Kyle and Gabriel and countless friends and relatives. A viewing will be held at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025 on Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held the next day at 12 p.m. at the Church of The Resurrection, 1445 Conway Dr., Escondido, CA 92027, with a graveside service after at San Marcos Cemetery, 1021 Mulberry Dr., San Marcos, CA 92069.
