Ronald Dahlin July 12, 2018 San Diego Ron was born in 1932 to Albin and Gladys Dahlin at Mercy Hospital in San Diego. After graduating from Hoover High School in 1949, he attended Cal Berkeley where he studied civil engineering and was a member of the football team and Pappy's Boys. After graduation, Ron joined the Army for several years before returning to Windansea Beach in La Jolla where he met and later married Joan Deringer in 1959. As a structural engineer with Ferver Engineering, Ron helped to coordinate construction of the Scripps Pier in La Jolla and several Navy wharves in San Diego Bay. The firm specialized in waterfront structures. He met Dede Bethea and the two married in 1995. Ron and Dede enjoyed travel, tennis, swimming and golf together. The couple were members of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club and took annual trips to Hawaii. Their adventures together included making the Alcatraz swim twice, in 2001 and 2003, backpacking to Mt. Whitney and hiking in the Sierras. Ron also enjoyed surfing, diving and sailing. He will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor, his honesty and his compassion for others.Ron is survived by Dede and his four children, Mike, Kim, Kathy, and Kirsten and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by Dede's children, J.B. and Tracy.
