Ruth Jamison Obituary
Ruth Jamison CHULA VISTA Ruth Carter Jamison went to be with the Lord on September 14just weeks before her 98th birthday. She was alert, involved, joyful and loving up to her final days. A treasure to all who knew her, she lived her life to serve others and provide a wise, listening ear.Born in abject poverty in upstate New York, she graduated as the valedictorian of her class and went on, as very few women did in the 1930s, to study library sciences. She was a member of one of the nation's first sororities and even kept her maiden namea bold statement for her time. For more than 20 years she worked at the Chula Vista Public Library, retiring as the Head Librarian.Wife of Stanthe love of her lifeand mom to Pat and Jerry, she created a home where love and faith would abound. But to dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, she was simply Nanaas she was to hundreds of others who came to know and love her dearly. As a woman of faith, her greatest joy came from her love of the Lord. It was an enduring, empowering, and infectious devotion that transformed all who came into her path. For more than 60 years she wrote daily in a diary to share her deepest feelings. Her final entry was a simple one: "Fell asleep praying and praising the Lord!" There is no doubt she did indeed.Services will be held at 4pm on Sunday, October 7 at Paseo del Rey Church in Chula Vista. All who knew and loved her are welcome.
