Ryan James Bartell March 9, 1976 - April 21, 2018 Seattle Ryan Bartell passed away on April 21 surrounded by family and friends after a brief but brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Katie, his 9-year-old son, Conor, his parents, Jim and Elaine Bartell, his brother Ross (Kaylan) Bartell and sister Rebecca (Ben) Figura. Ryan was a 1994 graduate of West Hills High School in Santee, CA, where he was a 4-year varsity cross country and track athlete. He continued his running and academic career at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. In 2002 Ryan enlisted in the US Coast Guard for four years and served in Seattle where he met and married Katie in 2005. After leaving the Coast Guard, he lifeguarded at Seattle beaches, coached high school cross country and track and worked as a para-educator with special needs students. In 2015 he received a bachelor's degree from City University of Seattle and became a Behavioral Technician for autistic students at Syre Elementary in Shoreline, WA. He was known as "Mr. B" and was loved and admired by co-workers, parents and students. Ryan loved the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed all the outdoor activities it has to offer especially camping with his family. He established a reputation as a disc golfer in Seattle area tournaments. He and his son shared a passion for all things Star Wars and Lego. Ryan will be greatly missed by both family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Ryan Bartell Fund at gofundme.com.
