Sarah Whitton Spiess

SPIESS, SARAH WHITTON July 27, 1923 to Sept. 29, 2002 Sarah Whitton Spiess "Sally", 79, died Sunday. She was born in Oakland, Ca., and moved with her family to La Jolla in 1952. A believer in translating caring into action, Mrs. Spiess was an active leader in many activities including the La Jolla Height Limitation Campaign, La Jolla Town Council, Citizens Coordinate for Century Three, Torrey Pines Association, La Jolla Historical Society, and The Wednesday Club as well as in Scripps Institution of Oceanography and UCSD organizations and her church. Survivors include her husband Fred Noel Spiess; sister Ann Giedt; children Kathy, Mary Liz, John-Morgen, Helen, Peggy; four sons-in-law and 8 grandchildren. A service will be held at the La Jolla Congregational Church, Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at 2 p.m. Donations can be made to the Torrey Pines Association or your favorite charity.
