Wayne Alexander Eurich May 20, 1920 - July 2, 2018 La Mesa Wayne Alexander Eurich, 98, died July 2, 2018 in La Mesa, California. A resident of Santee, California, Eurich was born to Alexander Eurich and Wilhelmina Sophia Heers Eurich on May 20, 1920 on a farm outside Friend, Nebraska.He married Wilma Geraldine Shaffer in 1941. He is survived by his wife Jonita Smith Cheek whom he married in 2006. He has five children: Sharon Barnes (spouse Charles), Judith Wills, Wendy Slocum (spouse Paul), Michael Eurich (spouse Nancy), and Jerri Lee Young. Eurich's 12 grandchildren are Matthew and Andrew Barnes; Susan Lozano; Christopher, Scott, Mark and Brett Wills; Peter and Graham Watson; Alexander Slocum; Teri Morris; and Rachel Young. His family includes 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He is also survived by a sister, Charlene Rideout, a brother, Gerald Eurich, numerous nieces and nephews, and too many friends to number.He was predeceased by his wife Wilma Eurich, his grandson Steven Barnes, his brother Aaron Eurich, and his great great grandson Jaxon Day.A graduate of Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas, and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, California, Eurich served in the Army Infantry in World War II (South Pacific).A Southern Baptist minister, Eurich pastored churches in Floydada, Texas; Fairfield, Novato, Los Angeles and Whittier, California; and North Bend and Sweet Home, Oregon before coming to San Diego to minister at Del Baptist Church. He retired from his position as Director of Missions for the San Diego Southern Baptist Association and then served as interim pastor in several locations, including Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, and Italy.A world traveler, Eurich was also an avid rose gardener.A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14, 1:00 p.m., at Del Cerro Baptist Church, 5512 Pennsylvania Lane, La Mesa, Ca.
