William Arballo Obituary

William Felix Bill' Arballo May 31, 1924 - December 8, 2016 Encinitas Born in Nestor, California, his family later moved to Del Mar. He attended San Dieguito High and graduated from Oceanside-Carlsbad High School in 1942.During WWII, he served as an Army Medic in North Africa and Italy where he earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.In the 1960's, he was one of the community leaders who successfully fought CALTRAN's plans to route I-5 through numerous North County coastal communities. He was also instrumental in the establishment of San Dieguito Regional Park. He was elected to the Del Mar City Council serving as mayor in 1962.During his long career as a reporter and in public relations he covered numerous stories of local and national interest in California and Hawaii. He was the founding president of the Big Island Press Club in Hilo, Hawaii.Arballo was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Angelyn, and his brother, Robert. His survivors include a sister, Mary Magana; daughters Loreta Arballo and Teresa Arballo Barth (Don), granddaughter Elizabeth Souders (Andy) and great-grandchildren, AlexAnn and Jacob Souders. Services will be held on February 18 at 11am at St. James Catholic Church, 625 South Nardo Avenue, Solana Beach.
