JOSLYN, WILLIAM G. Major General, USMC, Ret. March 14, 1922 to December 22, 2011 Our father, Bill, was born in San Francisco, CA. He attended Grant Grammar School and amassed a then record eight block L's at Lowell High School. He played football for the legendary Mike Voyne and captained the undefeated 1939 City Championship football team. Bill was All-City for three years at Lowell, graduating in 1940. Bill went on to play football at both Stanford and CAL and was later drafted by the NFL Washington Redskins. He was inducted into the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in 1993. During World War II, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended Boot Camp at Paris Island, SC. He was commissioned through the V-12 program and over the next 34 years rose through the ranks and retired in 1976 as a Major General. His last assignment was Commanding General, Second Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC. He fought in three wars and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. After retirement, Dad worked as a Vice President for Merrill Lynch. Dad and our mother, Barbara Ruth Williams, were married for 61 years before Barbara's death in May 2007. Bill leaves behind three beloved children, Lt. Col. William J. Joslyn, USMC, Ret., Gwynneth Joslyn Bell, and Elizabeth Joslyn Richardson with their spouses, Harriet Joslyn and Capt. Sam Richardson, USN, Ret. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Rob, Mike, Will, Kathryn, Karyn, David, Dylan, and Noah. Seven great-grandchildren also survive him: Scott, Luke, Claire, Landon, Chloe, Reese, and Julian. Dad was an uncommon man who will be forever in our hearts, missed and loved always. A memorial service and interment will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on January 19, 2012 at 1200. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: San Diego Hospice Foundation at 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103 or at www.sdhospice.org or to the Wounded Warrior Project, [email protected]

It was always a pleasure to see your father on his visits to Jonathan's for his turkey sandwich. Enjoyed seeing his smile.
He was a kind man.
I too am sorry to hear of his passing, and wish to express my deepest sympathy.

Mr. Joslyn was a long time patient of Dr. Charles Fitch, La Jolla. I was the office manager and had many opportunities to experience his warm kindness. His wife, Barbara, was also our patient, and I have her in fond memory.

I was sorry to hear about his passing, and wish to express my deepest sympathy.
