Jack Felson

FELSON, JACK Born August 29, 1937 Died July 26, 2009 Jack Felson, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather died in a Bavarian Clinic in Germany where he courageously battled lung cancer. Jack was raised in San Diego, graduated from Helix High School and then graduated from San Diego State University with a major in Political Science. He married Claire Vesco, his college sweetheart. Jack continued his graduate work in political science at Washington University and UC Berkeley. During the summers throughout college and grad school, Jack and Claire directed summer camps. In 1966, they bought Forest Farm Camps in Marin County where their three children spent their formative years. Their father was a magical force, not only for them, but for a generation of children and counselors that attended for ten years. In the early 70's, Jack was elected President of the Marin Municipal Water District Board and ran for the Democratic nomination for the California Assembly at which time he was described as the "greenest of the green" candidates. In the 1980's, Jack and his family returned to San Diego, where over the next 30 years, he launched a series of visionary development projects for sustainable land-use. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Solar Sales for PermaCity. He was filled with love for his family, humanity and the planet. Jack is survived by his mother and brother, Rissel Felson and Larry Felson; his wife of fifty years, Claire Felson; his children, Jena and Michael King, Jon and Darcy Felson and Cari and Scott Waterbury; and his grandchildren, Alexandra, Teddy and Audrey King, Ben Felson and Kathryn Waterbury. A private memorial will be on August 29th at the family home. The family requests that you do a good deed and then say, "That's for Jack!" and ask them to Pass It On.
