Lewis Shuster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2019.
Lewis John Shuster June 21, 1955 - December 13, 2018 San Diego Biotech industry executive Lewis Shuster, of Encinitas, California, died on December 13, 2018, after a brief battle with advanced pancreatic cancer. He was 63. A graduate of Swarthmore College and the Stanford Business School, Lew spent more than three decades as an executive in the life sciences field. He founded Shuster Capital in 2002, where he put his considerable experience to work as an advisor and board member for public and private life science companies, as well as being an angel investor in promising start-ups. He was a loving husband and father, a wine aficionado, and a tennis player. He also loved classical music, hiking in our national parks, and pie. He is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Kate, his daughter Anna, stepson Trevor of Encinitas, CA, parents Duane and Irene Shuster of Avon Lake, OH, brother David and his wife Jean, along with their sons Jason and Robert, of Canton, GA. Memorial donations would be especially appropriate to the Yosemite Conservancy (San Francisco, CA), or Mainly Mozart (San Diego, CA).

My deepest condolences to the family. Lewis Shuster was such a kind, good-hearted person (along with his wife, Kate Shuster). It was always a pleasure to wait on him and his family, discuss wine, and hear the latest good news. Such a lovely family! He is missed.

My condolences to Lewis' folks.
My sister Laura just let me know about Lewis' death. I wish that I'd kept in touch with him after high school - it looks like he had a really happy life! I remember coming to your door with Chrysha, and asking for him, to your surprise. We had some adventures, and got him in some trouble, too. He was a great friend, and I'll always remember him.

Lewis was my classmate at Swarthmore. He was funny, kind, and a good friend. I'm very sorry that he has passed away.

We are so sorry for your loss. We just enjoyed seeing Lew at our 45th Avon Lake High School reunion in September. We had a lot in common, school days, parents in Avon Lake, life in San Diego, and work in the biotech arena. It was always great to see him and recall the number of professionals in the industry we both knew well. He will be greatly missed. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
