Dr. Ruby Cremaschi-Schwimmer

Obituary Condolences

CREMASCHI-SCHWIMMER, Dr. RUBY Legendary Educator, 67 An indomitable spirit like no other, Ruby came from so little and became so much. Although her mother went only as far as the 4th grade, Ruby went on to complete a doctoral degree in education and devote her life to inspiring thousands of others over a thirty year career in San Diego. Ruby was most well known as principal of Lincoln High School, Muir Alternative and Twain High School. She was honored many times including San Diego's "Woman of the Year" award and an Optimist Club award for changing the world through language. From her first marriage, Ruby is survived by her three children: April (Michael), Wayne (Mary), and Bonnie (Allen). In 1981 Ruby married Sidney Schwimmer and became a beloved member of the extended family. Although she was preceded in death by Sidney, she leaves behind three step- sons: Larry, Bob (Cindy) and Dave (Suzie) Schwimmer, as well as nine grandchildren who will miss her dearly: Matthew, Samantha, Jonathan, Caitlin and Scott Schwimmer; Darcy Deane; Savannah, Roman and Sierra St. John; as well as many beloved members of the Schwimmer family. Ruby is also preceded in death by her sister Rosalie Nero and her Uncle Melvin Lee. She is survived by her cousins: Bobby (Pearl), Lori and Mel Lee; and nieces and nephews: Cecil, Linda, Wayne, Hope and John Nero. Ruby belonged not just to her family, but to a much larger community that was transformed by her. She was an influential and respected leader among African Americans, Jewish people, young people and all of the people she touched in her personal and professional life. Her loss is deeply felt by us all. Services will be held today January 4th at 2 p.m. at the Prado, House of Hospitality in Balboa Park. In lieu of flowers Ruby would have been grateful for a donation in her memory to either: The United Negro College Fund, (800) 331-2244, www.uncf.org or The Elijah Minyan (the Jewish Synagogue Community where Ruby worshipped and studied), Rabbi Wayne Dosick, 3207 Cadencia St., La Costa, CA 92009.
