Obituary Condolences

FORBES, GEORGE THOMAS JR. George Thomas Forbes Jr. passed away at home on December 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1921 to Marie and George Forbes. In 1934, he became a resident of San Diego and attended local elementary schools and graduated from Hoover High School. He then entered San Diego State College before being called to active military duty. During World War II, he served in Africa, Italy, and France. On returning to civilian life, he returned to San Diego State College where he served as Associated Student Body president, was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and earned a bachelor's degree in Economics. W hile on campus he met and married his wife, Jeanne Oncley. During the Korean War, George was attached to the U.S. Marines as part of the American Red Cross. Once back in San Diego, he taught for 26 years in the San Diego Unified School District at La Jolla and Marvin Elementary. In addition, he took an active part in Little League, Boy Scouts, and Pony League. His family was the center of his life and he treasured every day he had with them. He found days on the golf course and nights at the Padres as good as life gets. He leaves behind his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Cheryl Rondestvedt and husband Chris; Ron Forbes; and his daughter-in-law Alana Forbes. He was predeceased by his son George Forbes III. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A family celebration of his life is planned and he will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at a later date.
