Henrietta Wahl Obituary

Wahl, Henrietta Eckstrom Norton 08/01/1929 ~ 03/16/2014 SAN DIEGO -- Henrietta died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Henrietta, the only child of Carl Eckstrom and Gunhild Stromgren, was born in NYC. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Art, and in 1952 married Harry Norton. After the birth of their first child, Cindi, the family moved to San Diego in 1956. Henrietta had three more children, Allen (deceased), Andy and Paul. The Nortons moved to La Canada in 1967, and five years later Henrietta and the children returned to San Diego after a divorce. She pursued her career in Arts Education and also worked for SD County Adoptions. She was a prolific artist and active member of the Clairemont Art Guild and San Diego Art Institute. Henrietta married fellow artist, Colonel Edward Wahl in 1985. After she was widowed in 2002, she suffered a severe stroke, and Cindi became her caregiver. Henrietta is survived by her three children, Cindi, Andy and Paul; Paul's wife, Lana; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Neal and Linnea; as well as her step-daughter, Karen Hemmingway, and family. Henrietta was beautiful inside and out. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and everyone who met her was at the least delighted by her. Her life motto was "Live, Love and Laugh" and "Laissez les bon temps rouler." Our hearts are broken. We love and miss you everyday. There will be a celebration of life held between 1p.m. and 4 p.m., on May 24th at 2736 Fairfield Street, San Diego, 92110. Please send any donations to Abreva Hospice.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to all who loved Henrietta. I remember happy and casual summer days spent at her San Diego home when I was a child. Thank you for contacting me, Cindi, the letter did find me. I will be in South America on a volunteer mission at the time of your celebration of life, which seems so fitting for all I remembered about your mom. Please find me on fb as I don't want to leave contact info publicly here. Again, my deepest sympathies to my cousins Cindi, Andy, and Paul. All my love - we will be in touch. Karen
