Nancy Loper Obituary
Loper, Nancy 05/09/1948 ~ 04/27/2015 ENCINITAS -- Nancy Loper, Ph.D, 66, died on Tuesday, April 27, 2015 from complications related to early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Nancy was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was raised in the idyllic community of Springbrook, by her adoptive parents, Nephtune and Tirzah Fogelberg. She attended Ohio University for two years and then received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from California State University, Long Beach. She was awarded her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angles in 1976. She maintained a private clinical practice of psychology in Encinitas for almost 30 years. Her dedication to her patients was widely respected. Nancy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008 at the age of 58. As she struggled in vain against this merciless disease, she led a life consistently filled with daily adventures and tasty treats. In her final years she was surrounded by loving caregivers, making in-home care possible for much longer than might have been expected. Nancy will be remembered for many things, but most certainly for her love of chocolate milkshakes, cookies, and she never met a piece of milk chocolate that she did not fancy. She celebrated the cupcake revolution by joyfully sampling them at locations throughout San Diego. Country Western music and, of course, Classic '60s tunes were a great comfort to her in her final years as she sang and hummed along. She loved to laugh, and even as the Alzheimer's pulled her into the mist, she enjoyed sarcasm and fun times. As Alzheimer's ultimately consumed her, all who were with her these past months are comforted that she is finally at peace. Nancy met her husband, Steve Benjamin, forty years ago and they were married on Maui, HI on October 11, 1981. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Ashley Benjamin, Ed.D.; son, Bryan Loper; grand- children, Colton and Zoe Loper; sister, Claudia Sue Dess; and her dear friend for these last seven years, Tulasi Bridges. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 6, at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, CA. 92121. Given Nancy's affection on for them, flowers are encouraged!
