Kimberly Smith Obituary

Kimberly Tonia Smith
September 12, 1964 - March 27, 2020
Resident of Santa Cruz
Our beloved daughter Kimberly (Sky) lost her precious life on March 27th, 2020 in Santa Cruz. We are devastated by the loss of such a beautiful soul and bright light in our family, who tragically left way too soon. She is now our angel in heaven. She was a greatly loved and cherished mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and a loving and loyal friend too so many. Sky was a loving mom to Levi and Max, 11 years old, whom she shared for their entire lives. They were the light and joy of her life beyond measure. She took them on every possible adventure in Santa Cruz. She gave them such wonderful memories to hold in their hearts. All the places they loved to go. All the parks, the walks at Big Basin, Roaring Camp train, the beach, always the wharf for breakfast, ice cream and special family dinners. Biking, hiking, and especially the picnics with Nana and Papa at the UCSC Agricultural Farm and Garden. We will miss her loving heart, her spirited sense of humor and her infectious smile and laugh. Sky was kind and showed empathy to anyone who needed help and to every creature great and small. Sky was a gifted pianist, sharing her original music on facebook with family and friends. She had volunteered her music at a senior home in Santa Cruz. They appreciated her music very much. Sky was an amazing artist. Her family will treasure her beautiful cards and paintings given to family. Sky was born in Mt. View and grew up in San Jose. Sky graduated from Prospect High School in San Jose, Cabrillo College in Aptos and UCSC Santa Cruz. Sky is survived by her boys, Max and Levi, her Mother, Vivian, her Father Richard, her Sister Kelley, her Uncle Robert, Cousins Sonya (Shane) and Travis (Samantha), her Uncle Konstantin, (Tricia) Cousins Senya and Hollis, her Aunt Judy, Cousins Teri and Cyndi. Because of the pandemic a private family service will be held on April 14th at 11:30 A.M. at St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Saratoga. Your thoughtfulness, your kindness, your action for others can be a tribute to Sky. Please join us on April 14th at 11:30 A.M. with your thoughts and prayers in your remembrance of Sky as you shelter in place.

While we weren't personal friends, Sky played piano at Sunshine Villa when we first moved my mom there about almost 3 years ago. Mom and I always enjoyed Sky's heartfelt performances. No words can express how tragic her loss is. May her family and friends find healing over time and forever keep her alive in your sweet memories of her.

Sky was a true blessing on this earth and in heaven. Sky gave her heart to so many unconditionally. Sky believed that ALL creatures mattered! May our memories she shared be a blessing to all she touched.

I'm so so sorry for the tragic loss of your beautiful Kim(Sky). Just devastated to hear about Kim's passing. Such a sweet soul. I went to high school with Kim and I'd also run into her in Santa Cruz from time to time. I'll miss seeing her on Facebook as she shared her love for her beautiful boys and parents. May peace be with you, Max and Levi.

I met Sky through mutual friends in 2017. The first time she came to my home- she graced everyone when she sat down at my piano. Truly, there was nothing like the sound of her music flowing through my home, out the windows and over the valley. She simply transformed and communicated with such clarity through her music. Anyone paying attention could genuinely sense that authenticity as they listened. Sky was also an amazing artist. One piece in particular of a woman essentially growing, almost the-birthing from the earth stick in my mind. The colors, the meaning behind it. Sky was very deep with her empathy, relatability and emotion and her craft (both music and art) was a true representation of this I was very sad to hear of her tragic loss. Levi and Max are so fortunate to have had 11 years which such a creative, soulful, loving mother. Yet, they deserved many more. My most heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family.

My sincere sympathy on the tragic death of Sky. Her death is a loss for our community and as well, her family. I cannot express the sadness I feel for this loss. Kim and I met nearly 34 years ago and as our lives wove in and out of each others lives, my fondness and love for her never waivered. She has always held a special place in my heart. May peace and comfort be yours in the days and weeks and months to come. Peace be with you.
