Arthur Templeman II Obituary
Arthur Templeman II
November 11, 1927 - May 2, 2018
Santa Cruz
Art, a longtime resident of Santa Cruz County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 2 at the age of 90. Born in San Mateo, his parents, Arthur and Doris moved to Carmel, California to raise their three children.
Art had fond memories of his "glory days" playing on the lightweight basketball team and basking in the sun on Carmel Beach. He graduated from Fresno State University, and then went on to get his teaching credential. Art spent most of his years teaching 5th and 6th grades at MacQuiddy Elementary School. He enjoyed teaching US History as well as doing Arts and Crafts with his students.
After he retired, Art spent years traveling to numerous countries throughout Africa, Europe, and Mexico. He became a pilot and loved flying Cessna airplanes along the coast. Art was an active member of Toastmasters, and the Capitola Bridge Club.
Five years ago, Art suffered a massive stroke and had to go through speech and physical therapy, in order to literally get back up on his feet with the help of a cane. Our family brought in an incredible caregiver, Lizette, who spent the last 5 years by his side. Art was a proud member of the Cabrillo College Stroke Center. Even after his stroke, he always incorporated exercise as a part of his daily life. He enjoyed walking at Seacliff State Beach and Downtown Santa Cruz, especially if it involved a hot chocolate and peanut butter cookie.
Art is survived by his longtime companion, Barbara Johnson, his three children, Arthur Templeman III of San Jose, Ronda Williams-Kniffin of Aptos, and Karen Odmark of La Jolla, as well as his grandchildren, Kori, Bridget, Brooke & Brody. His family and close friends will miss him dearly. At his request, the family will have a private gathering. Mehl's Colonial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
