Deborah Snyder Obituary

DEBORAH MARIE SNYDER

Deborah Marie Snyder died unexpectedly at her home in Corralitos on February 17. She was 60 years old. Deborah was born on December 8, 1950 in Urbana, Illinois to Jack Milton Crannell and Helen Marie Lundeen. She lived in Champaign, Illinois until her parents divorced and moved in 1964. She and her brother moved with her father and stepmother first to Florida and later to Maryland. In the early 70's, she moved once again - this time, to Santa Cruz where her stepmother lived.

She immediately embraced the Santa Cruz landscape with its incredible beauty as well as the community with its casual lifestyle. This would remain her home for the rest of her life. The Santa Cruz area also became the inspiration for her love of photography, and her camera was always close by her side whether she was exploring the outdoors or capturing her friends and family at numerous gatherings.

Deborah was the ultimate free spirit. She loved nature and for many years lived in the Santa Cruz mountains in a small cabin that she helped build. The quiet and solitude fed her soul. She was a friend to all animals and took care of many dogs, cats, and birds -- rescuing strays and providing them a loving home.

The true love of her life was her husband of 14 years, Cort Snyder. From the day they met, they found great joy in each other's company. Among the many things they shared was their passion for animals and together they continued offering friendship and a safe haven for the various strays that appeared on their doorstep.

Deborah is survived by her husband Cort Snyder of Corralitos; her brother Jack Crannell [Susan] of Pleasant Grove, Utah; her mother Helen Priem of Pleasant Grove, Utah; her brother, Chris Greene; her stepmother Earleen Overend [Wayne Palmer] of Aptos; her father Jack Crannell of Stoughton, Wisconsin; and her nephews Jason and Logan Crannell and Malachi and Sebastian Greene.

Her spirit will live in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Services will be private. Donations to the SPCA, 2685 Chanticleer Ave., Santa Cruz 95065 or the Santa Cruz County Animal Services Authority, 2200 7th Ave., Santa Cruz 95062 are preferred.

From the day I held you in my arms in the back seat of a car taking you home for the first time when you were born, about 10 Dec 1950, I have never stopped loving you. You were my one and only sibling until my step brother was born in 1967. Every day that goes by will either brings us together again or end the pain of being away from you. - Your loving brother - "jackie"

I feel very blessed to have known Deb, first as a co-worker and then as a wonderful friend for many years. I thank her for allowing me to be a part of her life, and for sharing her zest for life with me. I thank her for introducing me to Earlene, and Wayne and the love of her life, Cort - all wonderful people. She was there when I was trying to figure out my place in this world and she was there when I met and then married my husband, Jeff. She (with Cort assisting) took the first photos of Jeff and I as a couple, in a makeshift photo studio in the middle of their living room of their house. Jeff and I had only been dating about a year and Deb was only supposed to take his photograph but somehow convinced me to have some photos taken together. She just knew that our relationship was going to go somewhere before I was certain of it. I have not seen or spoken with her at all in the last 6-7 years but it was a good feeling to know that she would be there if I called and that we would be able to pick up where we left off. I will miss her and remember her always. My deepest sympathies to Cort, Earlene, Wayne, and the rest of her family.

Deb,

It's hard to believe that you are gone from this world. We shared so many fun and intense times together. You will always be a part of me and I will always be so thankful to you for so many things-especially for telling me to call Bill back. The memories of your place in Bonny Doon are some of my most cherished. You were a shining star and I will always look up to you!!! See you upstairs someday.
