Nisse Victor Zahm
January 12, 1948 - June 16, 2014
Nisse Victor Zahm, known by friends and family as Vic or Victor, passed away on June 16, 2014 and has moved on to the next "adventure". He was born in Oberlin, Ohio on January 12, 1948 to James Zahm and Britta Zetterberg who both precede him in death.
Vic was a lover of all forms of nature. He was an avid gardener, always inviting friends over to check out his latest beauty - crazy succulents, amazing fruit trees, wild berry bushes exploding in bloom. He was especially fond of reptiles and amphibians and always had lizards, snakes, newts or frogs hanging around his backyard. He would walk you around lifting up stones and wooden boards searching for hidden treasures - little bugs hiding under a rock would get him giddy with excitement. Buckets of poppy jasper were scattered around his house and he would excitedly show you his favorite piece. He was a gem dealer by trade and had an eye for beautiful things. He loved art in every form - painting, sculptures, tapestries, colorful shirts. He had a sense of fun and youthfulness about him. Simple things - the ocean, a blue-belly lizard, good coffee, a great book - would spark excitement and adventure.
He was an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephew - taking them to Yosemite, one of his favorite places, going for creek walks, watching old Marilyn Monroe movies, making lizard catchers, fishing... Even when things got more challenging later in his life, he had an ability to see a brighter future and the possibility of good things to come. He had a sense of hope in the bleakest of moments, a rarity, and perhaps what kept him going for so long.
We will miss him so much but know that he is in a better place now. He is survived by his daughter; May Zahm, his brother; Philip Zahm, his sister; Kristina Zahm, his two nieces; Sorrel and Nicole Zahm and his nephew and namesake; Victor Zahm.
A celebration of Vic's life will be held at Natural Bridges state park on Sunday, July 13th at 2pm. Anyone who wishes to join can contact his brother, Philip, at 831-332-7982 - all friends and family are welcome.
