Clifford S. Short passed away on September 15, 2016 at his home in Felton, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79. Born May 17, 1937 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Sam and Mary (Sciortino) Short. He married Norma Perry in 1955 and together had four children.
As a young man, Clifford began working at motion picture studios as a designer and sculpture. He worked for 20th Century, M.G.M, Desilu and a number of others. One of the first movies he worked on was the "King and I". He also did sculptures for Dr. Doolittle, Planet of the Apes, Hawaii and The Birds. He also worked in television on shows such as Batman, Green Hornet and Lost in Space and a number of others during his career. Locally Clifford will be remembered for his sculpting and wood carving. He personally carved the California State Seals which reside in the County Court House. He also carved many other well known landmarks in Felton including; Smokie the Bear, the Ox, the statue of St Francis, the Fireman and the Eagle.
Clifford was a resident of Felton for the past 45 years. A member of St. John's Catholic Church in Felton where he was an usher for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Short of Felton; four children, Nancy Faneuf and her husband Matt of Felton, Ann Brofft and her husband Gordon of Boulder Creek, Mark Short and his wife, Shellie of Martinez and Chris Short of Winters; two sisters, Angela McHugh of Northridge and Louise Walton of Ventura; two brothers, Christopher Short of Camarillo and James Short of Bonny Doon. He is also survived by fifteen grandchldren and eighteen great grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church 5953 Highway 9, Felton, CA 95018. on Saturday September 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
