McKie Wing Roth, Jr. Passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Born in Oakland, California in 1941, he graduated Acalanes High School in Lafayette, CA. He later moved to Maine and began building wooden boats, and later Colonial reproduction homes. He then moved to Santa Fe in 2005. He had many friends and relatives who loved him dearly and will miss him very much. McKie had many talents and enjoyed his artistic abilities. Everyone knew of his boundless energy, constantly creating impressive projects in architecture, boat building, photography, oil painting, and art of all kinds, and his last project, building an ultra-light automobile from scratch. McKie is survived by his son, Mark Roth; his sisters, Joanne Ball and Dianne Lauer; numerous nephews, nieces, and relatives; his dear friend, Geri Merrill; former wife, Barbara Feller-Roth; and numerous friends. He is predeceased by his father, McKie Roth, Sr. and mother, Marion Clary Roth. A memorial service and remembrance will be planned for September 2012 in Santa Fe. Saddened to learn of Nicks passing. Very much enjoyed working with him at Stonetree, Arrowsic, Maine and building several of his designs for customers. Along with being an outstanding designer he was a kind man and very much appreciated he taking me under his wing when I arrived to the coast of Maine in 1979. His work is a more cherished legacy now.

I too own a house that was designed by Nick as he was known in the Bath, Maine area. I love my little reproduction cape and praise the architect often for his insightfulness and aesthetics.

How sad to have come across this news. My favorite home of all time was the period saltbox my husband and I built using his plans. A gorgeous, period home rich with details.

I have been trying to locate Mckie and was so saddened to find this on line. We built many of his homes here in the New England area. Every plan he sold us came with a little piece of him - quality service like no other. Very sad... great guy.

To a man whom I admired from a far. A distant relative,I think not. A man who taught me so much without speaking a word,a man of action. My Uncle Nick! Passionate, driven, creative, keen eye, honorable, naturalist, appreciation & honoring of the past, and most importantly: Love remains in unspoken words sometimes....Thank you for always giving me something to aspire to.....
I will miss your creative soul
And on behalf of Papa, Nicky,Nicky, Nice and Sticky..

You designed our home in 2005 and over the next several years our friendship grew. Your humor and creative mind will be deeply missed. We feel honored to have been able to work with such a wonderfully pleasant and talented man. Your masterpiece of home design gives us such joy everyday. Thank you so very much.

To see Nick smile was like watching a rare flower bloom right in front of me...I took great joy in his impish grin, knowing that it was woven from some unique twist of perspective. He was a perfectionist par excellence who created his world through houses, violins, cars, and yes...world globes! I do and will continue to treasure the beautiful Shaker-style footstool that Bill and I made from his design. Nick, Barbara, Bill and I shared many, many restaurant meals...getting to some made for quite the adventure; like the night we drove through a blizzard to get to the Surry Inn. The window had to be kept open so that we could reach out to thump the windshield wipers clean of ice and snow in order to see where we were heading... Mark, even though I haven't met you, you are in my thoughts. Whenever your dad talked about you it was with love and affection, always wanting the best for you, wanting you to be happy in life. I hope that you, Barbara, your Aunts, family and friends are comforted and healed through the caring of one another and by the living memories of Nick. With affection, Sheila (a friend of Nick's from the Castine chapter of his life).
