Lourdes Curaza Obituary
1931 - 2025
Lu Curaza, 94, of Santa Maria, California passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 9, 2025. She was born on February 4, 1931 in Moreland, California. Her parents are Discoro and Josie Ituralde. While growing up, she and her family worked the seasonal crops in Central California. Eventually they settled in Santa Maria.
Lu attended Santa Maria High School. She met Benjamin (Butch) Curaza and in December of 1948 they married in St Mary of the Assumption Church in Santa Maria. Together they raised 5 children, Josefa (Sefa) Curaza, Benjamin Curaza Jr, Janice Guenther (Jim), Janet Bailes (John) & David Estalio.
The early years of Lu's employment included John Ingles, Columbia Records, Santa Barbara Research and Target. Her hobbies were gardening, crocheting baby blankets and making Christmas ornaments for family and friends.
In her retirement Lu enjoyed being around her grandchildren Jocelyn, Andrea, Ashley, her great grandchildren Janea, Mikey, Keshawn, and her great great grandchildren Kyrie, Kennedi and Kenyon.
Lu was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin, her daughter Josefa, and granddaughter Ashley. She is survived by her older brother Joe and sister-in-law Claudine Ituralde and younger brother Roy Ituralde.
Our family would like to thank Central Coast Hospice and Moms' nurses, Dan and Jessica for their compassionate care.
Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Dudley Hoffman Mortuary in Santa Maria, California.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
