Mario Alonso Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Francisco Alonso, who died on November 17, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Mario built a life shaped by courage, determination and a devotion to his family. As a young man, he immigrated to New York City, beginning a new chapter rooted in hard work and hope for the future. He later moved to California, where he and his wife created a home. Mario raised his family in both Whittier and Santa Maria, guiding his daughters with patience and dedication.
Mario is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Gloria. His daughter Claudia and her husband, Jeff. His daughter Lorena and her husband Tom. And, his daughter, Janet and her husband, Joaquin. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather whose love for his family was unwavering.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Ashley DeLeon and her husband, Derek DeLeon. Janice Luis and her husband, Brad Luis. His grandsons Tommy Matkin and Jarred Curtis. His granddaughter Nadine Matkin and her partner, Andy Maldonado. His grandson, Christian Curtis and his granddaughter, Jolene Mendez.
Mario is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Nathan DeLeon, Alaynah DeLeon, Matthew Luis, Gabriel Maldonado and Leo Luis.
To his family, Mario was a source of steady guidance, quiet strength and boundless love. He will be remembered for his hard working nature, his ability to dream and the kindness that he extended to every life that he touched. Mario's legacy endures in the memories he leaves behind.
A viewing and service will be held on November 29th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary. A reception will follow at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene.
He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
