Charles "Chuck" Edward Phillips
July 21, 1930 January 5, 2022
Charles Chuck Edward Phillips, 91, of Santa Maria, California passed away on January 5, 2022.
Chuck was born in Elk Point, South Dakota on July 21, 1930. He grew up on a farm during the depression, when times were hard, but he was a happy child. He attended Jefferson School in Elk Point, he joined the US Army and served his country in the Korean War. In 1951, he married his sweetheart, Ella Jean Jean. When he returned from Korea, they moved to California, eventually settling in Santa Maria in 1959.
He was employed as a sales representative for Bergen Brunswick Drug Company. His territory spanned from Solvang to Paso Robles, allowing him to really get to know, and appreciate the Central Coast. He retired after a 40-year career, then went to work for Hertz Rent a Car for something to do.
Chuck was a fun-loving man who enjoyed visiting and laughing with family and friends. He loved volunteering for the DES and Elks clubs, travelling to the National Parks with Jean in their RV, attending yearly Phillips-Landers family reunions in Las Vegas, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and Santa Maria Style barbequing.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jean, his parents Leon and Susie Phillips, his brothers Elmer, Bill and Dean Phillips, and sisters Maxine Gaynor and Sharon Bruggeman.
Chuck is survived by his son Dennis Phillips and daughter Brenda Hossli (David), all of Santa Maria.
A memorial celebration of Chuck's life will be held on Friday February 4, 2022, at 1:00pm at First Christian Church, 1550 S College Dr, Santa Maria.
